Join us for the launch of “The Basics” program for coastal Alabama led by United Way of Southwest Alabama.

Dr. Ron Ferguson was our first guest for Coastal Conversations in January 2021. He is returning this October 18, 2022 to kick off the newest Basics program led by United Way of Southwest Alabama.

Doors will open at 11:30AM with the program to start at 12:00PM. Lunch will be provided to those that RSVP by Friday, October 14th.

Dr. Ferguson will share the background on the program, highlight success stories from other communities and the United Way of Southwest Alabama will unveil their plans for implementing The Basics in our community.

Coastal Alabama is joining The Basics Network, a growing, multi-community network of communities around the United States and abroad that are using The Basics Strategy to raise awareness of early childhood development and build capacity throughout communities. The Basics is focused on five science-based parenting and caregiving tents that support social, emotional and cognitive development of children from birth to age three.

The Basics is grounded in the latest research in early childhood learning, brain development, behavioral science, and community change. Ongoing research engages The Basics Learning Network (BLN) communities in documentation and evaluation for continuous learning and improvement. The aim is to assess implementation progress against goals; track key outcomes with respect to community saturation, partner organizations, parents and caregivers, and children; uncover areas for improvement and innovation; and identify lessons and principles that can be shared within the multi-city BLN and the field at large.

Coastal Conversations is a platform for citizens to engage with experts who will provide leading edge information and share big ideas. Our goal is to expand awareness of issues, to increase knowledge of best practices and to inspire positive change. Coastal Conversations is a program of Coastal Alabama Partnership.
